How to Make a Balanced Pocket Food Breakfast

The new year always brings a slew of new health trends (with an unhealthy dose of shame, tbh):  intermittent fasting, keto diet, CBD everything, health wines. Some of these seem a lot more reasonable than others, but we decided to start 2019 with a focus on a classic wellness concept: balance.

Just before Christmas, I dropped in on Mackenzie and her family in Austin for a week of finding all the best pocket foods ATX has to offer. We wanted to indulge ourselves in all the empanadas, hand pies, tetelas, dumplings, pupusas and tlacoyos we could find, but knew that we would need a lot of green juice to compensate for our carb-loaded pocketship adventures. We opted to create well-balanced meals throughout each day, which sparked motivation to carry this theme through 2019.

To start, we enjoyed a jalapeño sausage kolache and half a Texas grapefruit with a Juiceland green juice. This beautiful balance allows us to feel good, not guilty, about our breakfast choices.

Below are some of our favorite pocket-centric breakfast items paired with our favorite whole foods for a healthyish meal. Pockets are tasty alone, but everything is better when shared with a pal!
