The World In A Pocket Internship

The World In A Pocket Fall 2018 Internship Application

The World in a Pocket is a start-up food media site devoted to better understanding the world through the lens of a dumpling  (i.e. food-inside-of food -- think about it, every culture has one!). We’re seeking an intern who is ready to jump in and help us report on and run a thriving website that shines a light on culture, history and sustainability through food.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be working directly with the founding members, both visual journalists, by supporting their efforts through research, production, editorial planning, and cross-platform storytelling. Interns will have the opportunity to publish relevant articles and to have a byline on our site.

Skills you will sharpen on the job:

  • Research
  • Copyediting
  • Editorial planning
  • Food photo & video production
  • Cross-platform storytelling
  • Social media management
  • SEO, analytics & Adsense
  • Project management
  • Backend web management

What we offer:

This is an unpaid, for-credit-only internship. Interns will gain integral knowledge of what it takes to run a startup media site, offering a one-of-a-kind learning experience with a small editorial team. Our founders are dedicated to making sure you are well equipped with the training and information you need to do your job. In addition, they will be available for mentoring sessions.

Applicants should:

  • Be enrolled in a college or university
  • Have a keen interest in digital media
  • Be familiar with social media platforms, especially Facebook and Instagram
  • Be able to prioritize, problem solve and meet deadlines
  • Be an open-minded team player willing to help in “all hands on deck” situations
  • Expect to work 8-10 hours per week

DEADLINE: Application due by September 4, 2018. This 10-week internship will begin on September 17, 2018.

Please submit the application below. Once you submit, email your résumé to hello@theworldinapocket.com. Only applicants who complete both parts will be considered.
